Ice Lagoon Rainbow

Once in a while as a landscape photographer you get blown away by the sheer raw beauty of Mother Earth.

During my trip in Iceland I had Ice Lagoon very high on the must see and shoot list. However Iceland is notorious for its ever changing weather. And this was no exception.

When we arrived there were heavy clouds and rain showers. But Iceland is equally notorious for its quick changing weather as it is for its bad weather. So patience is something you need in Iceland.

And then the clouds tear open and this amazing rainbow unfolds over the Ice Lagoon.

Perhaps not the best technical shot I ever taken. But still one that I'm very happy to share with the world as this was almost an spiritual event for me.

Enjoy the picture and feel free to share the link and the new website to your family & friends.

If you want more information or buy a canvas print, let me know.

Have a great end of the week !
Love,
Kevin

Keukenhof

As you grow as a photographer you also grow in your workflow. And sometimes you just need to pick up old work again and relook at it ... This one is from 2016 shot in Keukenhof The Netherlands during the Tulip season.

Ostend by Sunset

Ostend by sunset. This turned out entirely different as I thought it would be :) I ended up taking an entirely different composition as I started with.

Marée du Birlot

Latest work and last one from our holiday. Not that spectacular as the Men Ruz picture. Because no wind and almost no clouds. Nevertheless a challenging shot :) I had to do a lot of cleanup as I forgot to shield my ND filters from the sun , so I had some flare spots on them ... well lesson well learned for next time ... :) The picture is made from a blend of 2 shots. 1 at 413 seconds and one at 60 seconds with different filters to capture different aspects of the water and the light. I use a polarised filter on almost all my shots so I tend to forget mentioning this a lot :D Lens used is the Sigma Art 18-35 mm ( sublime lens) , my trusty Sony A77MKII. Format Hitech Firecrest 10 and 3 stops filter were used. Enjoy !

Men Ruz

Men Ruz lighthouse during sunset in Ploumanac'h Bretagne France. A blend of 3 different images ( at different times ) to capture all the light and all the colours that I wanted. ISO 100, F8 , average of 212 seconds , shot with a Sony A77 MK2, Sigma art 18-35 mm and Format Hitech Firecrest ND filters.

Reykjavik

This was our last evening in Iceland and what a show it was. Half of Reykjavik was there to watch this amazing spectacle with us. With the naked eye there was not that much to see thanks to a super bright full moon. But through the lens it was another story ... Aurora Borealis is by FAR the most beautiful spectacle made by Mother Nature that I have EVER seen ! Enjoy :)

Gljúfrabúi

Gljúfrabúi waterfall in Iceland. A hidden gem close to the more known Seljalandsfoss. Make sure to wear waterproof shoes and a raincoat as you will get wet !

Diamond Beach

The picture below was taken on Diamond beach. A place where the big ice chunks from Glacier Lagoon get beached at low tide. When we arrived the weather was dreadful. Strong winds, rain etc ... but like we've learned very fast. Stay a bit longer and the weather will eventually turn for the better ( read for like 5 min ). So we did and this shot is the result, I love the way the light bounces off into the ice and creates this fantastic blue color.

Iceland DC3

In the desolation of Iceland you can find back your true self ! Epic location with a crashed DC3. This is a picture composed of 10 different shots ( including one of myself standing on the plane ). Enjoy !

Barnafoss

Barnafoss Iceland. This shot was on our last day in Iceland. The shot is taken from a suspended bridge , so every time somebody walked over the bridge I could start again :) Iso 50, F8.0, 30 seconds

Northern Light

ICELAND THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH.... This was truly epic. I was SOOOO excited I couldn't stand still for the selfie :) Northern Light , shot at ISO 16OO , F1.8 and 2 seconds shutter speed.

Etretat

Sometimes you simply need to rework your old work with the new stuff you've learned ... :) Etretat Normandy France, one of the very first long exposures that I ever did ...

Happy Earth Day

When you go out for a shoot, you always start off with some sort of an idea in your head. Lots of time you can just execute that idea and the result looks splendid. But there are times (like today) you get on the location and the weather, humans, nature whatever isn’t really cooperating. Today was such a day, super calm sea, very difficult light to work with and a location that was relative new to me. Well sometimes difficult things make the most beautiful shots.

Magical mystical Tenerife

I’m still going through all my photo’s I took on Tenerife. What a magical island that is. I love the way the light plays with the volcanic rocks creating this awesome contrast to play with. Combined with long exposure times you can just simply create pure mystical magical landscapes. Call this country the Iceland of the south. This one is taken on the same beach as the first post here on this website. San Juan playa. By just moving my camera a few meters you create a complete new composition. The sun was setting and creating this fantastic glow on the rocks. This is a exposure of 30 seconds and I achieved this with a 6-stop ND filter from Formatt Hitech, the Firecrest ND 1.8. Working with these filters is just fantastic. You don’t loose any dynamic in your shots and it produces great contrast and color. Contact me for more info if you want to know more about these filters.

Magic is what you need in life

This shot is one I will remember for a very long time. I’ve set out with a fellow photographer and a clear idea in my head. We will be going to photograph the Mont Saint-Michel with a sunset and a sunrise. It would make for a few epic pictures, no? Well… little did we know that nature had other plans. The sunset… well clouds allover the place and no sunset. So let’s just put all our money on a sunrise, right? So we looked up the sunrise and we set off extremely early in the morning to take our position. Only to be confronted with… fog. But if there is one thing that I’ve learned over the years is that nature always throws you a surprise  So while being eaten alive by mosquitos (yes, bring repellant if you want to shoot it from this angle) we waited for the sun to rise and the fog to clear. And then… MAGIC happens. We were rewarded with this awesome shot

Los Gallettas

I love to shoot nature on my travels. Enjoy this sunset in Los Gallettas.

Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes Tenerife, Long Exposure, enjoy !

Mystical Lands

I shot this in March when I was visiting the Canary Islands. The sunset was starting slowly and the light was just magnificent. The exposure hereunder is about 30 seconds. It made the wild see look like a mystical landscape.

Hallerbos 2017

The Hallerbos… once a year this place turns into a magical carpet of blue/purple bluebells. I went to shoot on Easter Sunday and I left very early in the morning as this place gets crowded with a lot of people very fast. Unfortunately the weather was very grim and the sun didn’t want to play a lot with the trees. This was the only shot that I’ve managed to take where you can actually see the sun playing with the trees. Photography is not always about getting the perfect shot for me. It’s also about enjoying nature and being mesmerized about the wonders that it throws at you. But remember to treat nature with all the respect she deserves when you want to enjoy her.

Point du Raz

Bretagne Point du Raz ... long exposure ( between 2-3 minutes). I just love the ocean here. Every day it brings you something else :) Enjoy ( Ps. the shots are from 2 different days )

Moere

It's not always about monumental sightings , this one is shot in my backyard .... :)

Audresselles

B&W in heart ... don't get us wrong, we do love colors, but there is something in B&W that you don't find back in color. It's hard to explain but for me B&W gives more emotion than color does.... Enjoy this one, also shot at Audresselles yesterday.
